Scholarships
The Summer Programs (where students live and study for three to five weeks on the Governor's School campus) must charge tuition to cover the cost of summer faculty, room and board. To make access to these summer programs available to all South Carolinians, regardless of their ability to pay, summer scholarships are funded by the Foundation.
For the summer of 2006, 21% of the student population received scholarship aid from the Foundation.
Scholarships exist to fund the $3,000 per year food service fee (the only substantive fee to attend the residential high school, where the boarding experience is valued at over $25,000 per year). For the 2006-2007 year, $98,810 was distributed in both residential and summer scholarships.
How can I help students with scholarship needs?
Scholarship dollars may be provided in varying ways:
- Establish an endowed scholarship fund to provide financial assistance for years
- Make an annual contribution designated for a scholarship
- Designate your contribution to provide financial aid for students in an art or academic area and/or from a geographic area
