10 Year Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration

10 Year Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration

This year marks an important anniversary in the history of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities:  ten years of inspired excellence in arts and academic education in our state.

Thanks to a generous grant from Surdna Foundation, Inc., we are proud to welcome John Patrick Shanley back to the Governor's School for our Ten Year Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration sponsored by AT&T.

Renowned playwright, director, actor and producer, he has been entertaining audiences around the world for years.  Mr. Shanley received an Academy Award for best original screenplay for Moonstruck (1988).  Later his play Doubt: A Parable (2005) won several awards for outstanding dramatic play including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, the 2004-2005 Drama Desk Award and the 2005 Tony Award.  The award-winning play was adapted for the screen, and last year Doubt was nominated as best screenplay for the Golden Globe, Academy and Critics Choice Awards.

Mr. Shanley's last visit to the Governor's School campus was in 2005 just days after he learned of his Pulitzer Prize win for Doubt.  We congratulate Mr. Shanley on his continuing success and are honored to have him back for this special occasion.

You are invited to join us for lunch and our Ten Year Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration on Thursday, September 17, 2009.  The event will take place on the Governor's School residential campus in Greenville at 11:00 AM.  There will be limited seating.
