Scholarships

Summer Programs - More than 25% of summer program participants have been granted full or partial scholarships. The summer programs began 30 years ago to allow students to experience the challenges and rewards of intensive arts training. The summer faculty is made up of practicing artists dedicated to nurturing creative potential. Students apply and audition to attend.

Residential High School - Of the 225 residential high school students who attend the Governor’s School, 30% consistently need Foundation support to pay the annual meal plan fee–the only major cost to attend the school. This fee provides three meals a day plus two snacks, seven days a week, for the nine-month school year.

Visiting Guest Artist Program

Funding for the Guest Artist Program remains our greatest need as the State of South Carolina cannot support this crucial part of an arts education. Each year the Guest Artist Program supports approximately 50 artist visits to our school in the five art disciplines. Professional artists teach master classes to students, provide outreach to other schools in the community, and host lectures which are open to the public.  Read more here...

Events

Leadership Tribute - Each spring the Foundation recognizes those individuals from across the state who have been instrumental in the creation and founding of this unique school that changes the lives of young people.  Sponsorships are available.

Songwriters in the Round - Each Fall songwriters from Nashville perform their own music in an up-close-and-personal setting while they share the stories that made their songs hits on the radio.  Sponsorships are available.

Medici Student Aid and Enrichment Fund

Donors are invited to make a contribution to the Medici Student Aid and Enrichment Fund as a way to support the 30% of our students who require financial aid to pay for their meal plan fee - the only cost required to attend the Governor's School.  The Medici Student Aid and Enrichment Fund levels the playing field for all students as it pays for everyday necessities that occur from living away from home - from eyeglasses to instrument repair to performance tickets.  This Fund ensures that no child will be denied the life changing experiences associated with attending this school because of their family's inability to pay.

Endowment

Endowment Funds have a long-term impact and may be established for a variety of reasons. By distributing only a percentage of the earnings on an annual basis, leaving the originating gift intact, these funds help ensure the future of excellence in our nation’s premiere public residential high school for the arts.
